Esmee Geerken is a Dutch artist, writer, and Earth scientist with a hybrid practice inspired by shells, seabed sediments, architecture, and ecology. Her projects question our perception (human and more-than-human) of the (built) environment; how we construct, forming interiors within exteriors, balancing the semi-permeability of our shelters, from stories to skyscrapers, from language to crystalline networks, from scaffolding to organic coatings.
Esmee obtained a PhD from the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. She recently received an Amarte grant for her first novel, De Gatendragers (The Hole Carriers), which will be published by Atlas Contact.
